What is Dry Needling?

Dry needling is a treatment involving the insertion of a thin, dry needle through the skin into areas of the muscle to stimulate trigger points that are causing pain or affecting movement

What is the purpose of Dry Needling?

Dry Needling has been proven as an effective treatmentfor many types of pain including musculoskeletal pain,radiating pain, etc.Dry needling can be used for a variety of  chronic  pain problems like – Headache, Frozen Shoulder, Tennis elbow, Golfer’s elbow, Buttock pain, Leg pain, Hamstring strains, Muscle spasms, Fibromyalgia, Sciatic Pain, Hip Pain, Knee Pain,  Repetitive Strain Injuries, Herpetic pain, Scar Pain etc.

How Dry Needling is performed?

It is done with the patient sitting or lying on operation table. The patients are monitored with an oxygen-monitoring device. The skin in the selected area , is cleaned with antiseptic solution and then the sterile needle is inserted by Pain Physician. This process typically takes between 5 to 10 minutes.

Is that Painfull?

Typically will not feel the needle enter the skin. The most common responses to Dry Needling are reports of a brief “deep ache” and/or “muscle twitch.” These are signs of effective treatment, especially if it reproduces the pain for which you are seeking treatment.

What Are the Advantages?

Dry needling is a treatment modality that is minimally invasive, cost effective, without Medication , without side effects and carries a low risk. Most people do not even know the needle is present. For many patients, pain relief happens instantly. This results in greater mobility, the body returns to natural, healthy and full function. As a result, patients enjoy a wider range of motion, favourite activities, exercises and sports

Are there any potential complications with this procedure?

Generally this procedure is safe, however with any procedure there are risks, side effects or possible complications. The risks, although infrequent, include: Bruising, Hematoma, Soreness, Pain, infection, damage to surrounding vital structures etc.

 These will be discussed with you by your pain physician prior to your procedure.
