Muscular Pain or Myofascial Pain Syndrome is characterised as persistent, deep aching pain in a muscle often associated with a tender knot in the muscle, also called as a trigger point. A trigger point is described as a hyperirritable spot in a muscle that is associated with a very sensitive palpable nodule in a taut band, pressure on which causes pain in the muscle and sometimes in seemingly unrelated parts of your body (called as referred pain). This syndrome typically occurs after a muscle has been contracted repetitively. This can be caused by repetitive motions used in jobs or hobbies, any muscle injury, poor posture or by stress or anxiety related muscle tension. Sometimes myofascial pain can be secondary to underlying joint or nerve disease. The pain is typically aching type but sometimes is associated with burning, tingling or numbness. It can lead to weakness & restricted motion of the affected part of your body. The pain may vary with physical activity, changes in weather, quality of sleep & emotional stress.
